HB1666 Vulnerable Users Bill must be scheduled today or its dead

HB1666 must be scheduled today:
It is currently stuck in JUD Committee and if it is not scheduled for hearing today it will die.

Go here for a list of all committee members

These are the chair and vice chair who we have to convince to schedule a hearing.  Get as many people to call as possible,

Gilbert S.C. Keith-Agaran, chair
House District 9
Hawaii State Capitol, Room 302
phone: 808-586-6210
fax: 808-586-6211
repkeithagaran@capitol.hawaii.gov

Karl Rhoads, vice-chair
House District 28
Hawaii State Capitol, Room 326
phone: 808-586-6180
fax: 808-586-6189
reprhoads@Capitol.hawaii.gov

The vulnerable users bill is a share the road bill and requires a driver to pass a bicycle, pedestrian or wheel chair with at least 3 feet of clearance.  If you have ever been forced off the road by a car you know why this is important.

call the Judiciary Committee Members now.  Tell them this bill is important and you want it heard.

  1. HB1666 has been scheduled for a hearing 2/16 at 2pm. See hearing notice at http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/session2012/hearingnotices/HEARING_JUD_2-16-12_2_.HTM

Thank for your effort. Now submit your testimony

  2. THE GOOD NEWS
I spoke with Rep Agaran’s clerk Susan Wong, with Rep Rhoads (vice-chair), and with Rep Wooley. Feeling is that since it was referred only to TRN and JUD, it is now in JUD, the final committee. Susan will call back to talk about it.

[Therefore it will make tomorrow’s first lateral deadline to the final committee and it can be heard in the next week so that it makes the first crossover deadline to Senate, which is March 2.]

    CALLS ARE HAVING AN IMPACT
Susan Wong said they are getting a lot of calls to hear it, so that’s great! Keep it up. Then when it is scheduled, everyone here please send in written testimony at least.

I’ll try to get in touch with Prosecutor’s to get some support from them.

Thanks John and Anthony for alerting everyone.

Mahalo, Chad, President of Hawaii Bicycle League
